Guest post - Mama G on Motherhood

I am full of surprises, did I not tell you that before? Well I want to keep this space open for more mothers to come forward and share their journey. Call it a community, a forum or village. I want every mama, who is struggling day in and day out, to know that they have a tribe to fall back on. I knew this because I always had Mama G around. She is my rock and has been for many, many years now. If I have even remotely mastered anything about motherhood, I have got Mama G to thank. She guided me through most of my panic attacks and told me that its all going to pan out.

We ave been best friends from school sharing every little secret. Now, here we are sharing our motherhood experiences.

Mama G on Motherhood:

So I gave birth to my pea (yes, I call my son pea - pattani in Tamil lol) on 23rd March 2019 and I was  stuck in the hospital due to postpartum hemorrhage (PPH - google it, it's serious!) for almost 5 days post delivery. I had my entire family around me, at my beck and call. But you know what I felt the most? Lonely, yes completely lonely and helpless.

And that was just the beginning. Days turned into weeks turned into months. Now we're at 14 months post partum and I still feel lonely in this journey. Everyone is nice to me. But nobody is going through this specific motherhood for me. Everybody is superficially interested in how things are, but nobody will come visit or ask you to join them for a drink like they used to. Because everything has changed. Now the topics that interest me, in no particular order are : toddler recipes, cloth diapers, sleep regressions, teething, baby laundry, rhymes and toys. I mean, you get the drift.

I used to remember thinking - how can people change just because of a baby. Now I know it's not "just because". It's a baaabbbbyyy!!!!! Every mom goes through this phase of being MIA and honestly, I used to get so worked up with this FOMO. Missing out on TV, gym, travel, social life, shopping and discovering new cuisines. But after a few months, you realize nothing else matters as much as the toothless smiles, the hugs and even their coos.

So, for every new (and not so new) mother out there, it's ok to feel lonely and like nobody is available for you. You got your baby. And your social life : well, you'll definitely get back the people who truly matter in your journey. Or even, new friends through your kids playgroup / school, once you start letting them in. You'll see, promise!
